Diane’s Story
I coach people who love to write great stories because I love them too.
There are so many aspects to storytelling and it’s hard for a writer to know when they’re on the right track. That’s where I come in.
How did I end up becoming an editor — backwards, sideways…mostly just because I was good at it. I started off as a writer, just like you. But I got one critique that derailed my confidence. So I started to learn everything I could about storytelling. What the rules were, when you could break them. I started critiquing as much as I could and practicing the skills I was learning by noticing when things worked in my peers writing and when it didn’t–and most importantly–why.
After I’d given a lot of feedback to much appreciative authors, one of them (Thanks, Deb!) suggested I go to work for one of the epubs as an editor. The rest is, as they say, history.
Best thing ever is giving an author feedback and having them say.
“I knew something was wrong, but not what. Thank you for making it so clear.”
Love that! Who wouldn’t.
One of the most satisfying parts of what I do is giving authors tools they didn’t have before, and watching their writing grow and blossom.
But as with every talent and skill people have their down falls, that’s where my daughter and partner come in. Her story is below.
